One of the hottest jacket trends you’re going to see everywhere this fall is…lady jackets! Sherpa jackets, cargo jackets, and bomber jackets aren’t going anywhere, but the lady jacket is super popular. In today’s For Less Friday post we’re sharing Erin’s favorite lady jacket, 2 ways to style it, and some affordable options you can scoop up to try the trend.

OK, what exactly is a lady jacket you might ask? It’s basically an updated take on a timeless, Chanel-like sweater, cardigan, or jacket. It’s usually cropped, collarless, and has distinctive buttons. Lady jackets are super feminine and versatile because you can wear them as a 3rd layer or as a stand-alone piece. You’ll often see lady jackets in tweed, but you can also find them in cotton, wool, boucle, and even denim. You can wear one casually with jeans or a denim skirt, as office wear, over a dress…there are a ton of gorgeous ways to style them. They function similarly to a blazer in your wardrobe but are a more on-trend update and still just as versatile.
Lady Jacket With Baggy Jeans
When you have a really feminine sweater or jacket, it’s fun to mix things up by pairing it with edgy pieces creating a cool juxtaposition! Erin’s distressed baggy jeans, sexy booties, casual t-shirt, and chunky belt all come together for a very chic and sophisticated but also insanely cool outfit. And her Alice + Olivia lady jacket really turns things up a notch! The contrasting black and white trim is vintage-inspired and chic. This jacket is gorgeous and the fit is amazing but we know it’s a little pricey for a trend so we wanted to recreate this look for you with some affordable options below.
Lady Jacket With Leather Pants
In this look, Erin styled the same Alice + Olivia jacket with some uber-sexy leather leggings. She swapped out the white v-neck tee for a black crew neck, creating a streamlined effect that’s sleek and slimming. Such a great outfit for date night or dinner out! If leggings aren’t your thing, you could also pair your lady jacket with a cool pair of coated jeans to achieve the same look.
Affordable Lady Jackets
Here are 8 more affordable lady jackets if you want to try the trend without breaking the bank!
If you love the look of Erin’s Alice + Olivia jacket, but were hoping for a more budget-friendly option, this pocket tweed jacket from Mango is in that same beautiful pop of red. Red and burgundy are among the hottest color trends this fall. If red isn’t your favorite, but you like the style, it also comes in ecru and black. This option is more of a cardigan than a jacket. It’s made of a cozy boucle knit and has pretty gold buttons down the front and on the breast pockets. It has a very classic, never-go-out-of-style silhouette! And…it’s mid-weight so it’s perfect for fall. If you prefer to wear neutrals in the fall/winter or feel black is a bit too harsh, no problem! It also comes in a beautiful taupe. Both are under $95.
The gold metallic threads in this cozy sweater jacket are so different and elevated. We do want to note that some of the reviewers said the fabric was itchy, so you might want to consider wearing a long-sleeved tee underneath it.
It’s tough to see in the collage above, but this tweed lady cardigan has beautiful pearl buttons and gold stitching. It’s made of a cotton-tweed blend so it’s more lightweight than the first tweed jacket. The price point is good too at $80.
Remember when we said lady jackets come in different fabrics? Here’s a denim version that caught our eye for an edgier way to try the trend!
If you’re a fan of stripes, this one might be for you! It comes in both dark green and black striped designs. You can wear it with jeans for running around or to the office with a pair of trousers.
Here’s another tweed option in a beautiful plaid with black, white, blue, yellow, and pink. It has black contrasting trim along the front, collar, and cuffs.
And finally, another red option because like we said, red really is the HOT color of the season. There’s also a matching pair of pants here if you want a fiery red head-to-toe look. This would be great for (thinking ahead) an office holiday party!
