Winter Capsule Wardrobe Basics
If you are a newsletter subscriber, you know that we have EPIC capsule wardrobe graphics seasonally. These handouts (that you can download and print) are so helpful visually when it comes to putting together the perfect capsule wardrobe where everything works seamlessly together.
What Is A Capsule Wardrobe
For those of you who don’t know what a capsule wardrobe is…it’s basically a collection of essential items that seamlessly integrate together. That means that you can mix and match and wear all of these pieces in a bunch of different ways. There’s a reason this graphic takes me 10+ hours to put together… I choose each piece very carefully, weighing fit and versatility as well as quality. You want to spend the majority of your wardrobe budget on basics…80% on basics and 20% on trends. You can find more helpful style tips here. Additionally, I’m thinking about sleeves, hemlines, and all of the things that help women feel more confident.

I tried to include pieces that are versatile so that you can wear them over and over again. This wardrobe is for winter but some of these pieces are such great basics that they could easily transition to spring and beyond! Find all of the links to the items in this capsule collection below…
When you’re building a capsule wardrobe, the first thing you should consider is color or what color story you want. Neutral colors like black, white, brown, gray, navy, etc. will be the most versatile for your classic pieces. But you can also add your favorite colors to show off your personal style. For example, I included pops of one of the trendiest winter colors…red!
Next, you should consider fit, quality, and details. I know that decision fatigue can kick in and it’s easy to settle on a piece of clothing that doesn’t really fit or flatter your body. Make sure you stay patient and take the time to find that perfect white button-down that fits your bust or those perfect ankle boots that don’t rub or give you blisters. Everything from your tops and sweaters to shoes and accessories should also be high quality. When you purchase higher-quality pieces, they’ll last longer and actually save you money in the long run! Finally, look for special details that really show off your style. Don’t just look for a basic long-sleeved tee, consider a tee with long sleeves that also have some ruching or puffed details to make it feel even more special.
After you’ve created a capsule wardrobe that you LOVE, everything you put on should feel like your favorite piece of clothing.
